Saturday May 19 - Sunday, May 20th STOWE VT As we celebrate the awakening of the plant world and revelation within, join us for this 4th annual Shavuot on the Mountain. Living Tree in collaboration with JCOGS and Ruach HaMaqom offers an inspirational weekend immersed in the beauty of the natural world, as we learn, hike, sing, dance, and share in a multi-generational community celebration. Come for the whole event or just the part that is most appealing to you. We begin with a hike to Bingham Falls on Saturday afternoon for a Mikveh (ritual immersion). Saturday evening we gather for blintzes, learning, ritual, and storytelling. All are welcome to sleepover at JCOGS, either outside in a tent or in a sleeping bag in the building. Sunday we will hike to the Mountain Chapel for a beautiful song filled experience. There may be a shuttle to the Chapel, stay tuned! Please sign up for the event and ALL are welcome. You don't have to go in the water to participate and enjoy the ritual. Come for the hike, for the community, for the beauty of our landscape, and the teachings. 4 p.m. Experiential Jewish Cooking for all at JCOGS. Will make delicious food to share at 6 p.m. 6 p.m. Pot-luck Dinner - Bring blintzes and a veggie to share. Followed by an evening of storytelling for all ages and late night Torah teachings, as well as Havdalah (ritual to end Shabbat and bring in Shavuot). Everyone is invited to sleepover at JCOGS either in a tent outside or in our building! Bring a sleeping bag and a pillow! Sunday, May 20th 2018 Night Hike - For Ambitious Hikers - climb to the top of Mt. Mansfield with guide and teacher Matthew Towle. 1am - Pack-up and get ready to leave Jewish Community of Greater Stowe (grab a snack and fill up water bottles) 1:30am - Drive to base of Mt. Mansfield, the Long Trail trailhead 2:00am - Gathering Circle & Commence on the Trek 3:30-4:00am - Break at Taft Lodge (Teaching/Activity/Reflective Time) 5:00am - Summit (Debrief, discussion about character refinement) 5:30am-7:00am Hike along ridge line 7:00am - Descent 9:00am - Regroup at base of Mt. Mansfield to hike (or use the shuttle) up to the Mountain Chapel Gear List: Please Bring... Day Pack, Water Bottles (2-4 quarts), Snacks, Clothing (Socks, Rain Gear, Warm Layers, Gloves, Hat), Bug Spay, Sunscreen, Treking Poles (optional), Head Lamp (with batteries) 9:30 a.m. Meet outside the Mansfield Lodge at Stowe Resort, where we will prepare to hike to the Mountain Chapel together. 1.5 mile Moderate to Advanced hike but accessible for kids and families. The Toll Road will have limited access - Must Register for Toll road - Please consider hiking with us if you are able! Lets build community and pilgrimage there together - helping friends carry children and cheering them on. What to Bring: Filled Water bottles, back pack, brown bagged lunch, bug repellant, Rain Gear, hat, sunscreen, snacks, chocolate to keep your kids going, a positive attitude. We will provide: fun and reflective programming along the way, community building, songs, Shavuot teachings, smiles! 11 a.m. - Shuttle leaves Toll Road for Chapel - STILL PENDING The Toll Road is not officially opened. We are still inquiring if we will be able to run a shuttle. YOU MUST REGISTER TO TAKE THE SHUTTLE! THERE IS LIMITED PARKING AT THE CHAPEL. There is an additional fee for taking the shuttle. Please email [email protected] to reserve your spot on the shuttle. The shuttle will head back down at 1:30pm! If you are at all capable of hiking to the chapel with us, please consider doing so - we will do what we can to support you - carry things and share in carrying children, offer motivation, cheer you on! 11:30 a.m. Festive song sharing and Torah Service at Mountain Chapel at Stowe Resort led by Rabbi David, and creative bibliodrama led by Rabbi Jan, as we celebrate and learn together. 1:00pm Eat together on the lawn! Bring your own bagged lunch. No one turned away from inability to pay.
