Join Dan Bensonoff at his multi-family homestead for a day of terrace and cob oven building , potato planting, and more. Fire to follow! Join Dan Bensonoff and the rest of the Catalpod Homestead for a day of terrace building, planting, and cob oven construction. Feel welcome to join us any time between 10 AM and 6 PM. We'll start the morning with a short tour of the .9 acre site and an explanation of the design process. We will then begin working on some contour terraces, which we will build and immediately plant with potatoes. We also plan to work on our cob oven this day. We hope to have people help mixing and applying cob. If there's time, we'll also work on finishing some hugel beds we made utilizing a pine that was cut back over the winter. We'll explain why we chose to make it and then work on putting the final touches on it. After we're done working we'll transition to hanging out by a fire with some nice local beer and snacks (courtesy of the hosts!). This will be an outdoor activity with appropriate Covid safety protocols in effect. Please bring a mask and some hand sanitizer so that you can use the indoor bathroom. While outdoors, mask wearing will be optional. Please also bring your own lunch if you'd like. We would also appreciate if anyone can bring along a shovel, rake, peasant hoe/ grub hoe. Children are very welcome! We have a 9 month old and a 5 year old who will be with us. We can take turns watching kids so that adults can get some work done.
