WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington barber who injured himself in a freak accident at work returned to work recently, the Boston barbershop said. Steve Silva had to get emergency open-heart surgery after falling on his own barber shears at work in Feb. 12. He was unable to return to work for over two months. Silva returned to Boston Barber Co. to work three days a week in late April, the barbershop said on Facebook. Silva either tripped or slipped while cutting hair and fell on his shears, his sister Jennifer Silva told Patch. "We know it hit a major artery and he needed to be rushed to the hospital for emergency open-heart surgery," Silva said. "The doctors say he's very lucky to be alive." The community raised over $30,000 for Silva on GoFundMe. Christopher Huffaker can be reached at 412-265-8353 or [email protected].
