Description

NORTHPORT, NY — Howie, a 6-year-old male tuxedo cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week. "Howie was dumped in a neighborhood in the middle of the winter, left to fend for himself," Lora Wild, a volunteer at the cat rescue, wrote in an email. "Thankfully, a kind family fed him and provided him some warm bedding by their home, but they soon realized he was too sweet to leave on the streets." The family called the cat rescue for help, and Howie has been in its care ever since. The rescue has found Howie to be sweet and affectionate, and all of its volunteers have fell in love with him. Howie is currently in the cages of the rescue's habitats, looking forward to someone who will bring him home to be their pet. Howie will need an experienced cat owner who understands how to slowly introduce him into their home. Wild suggested no hiding spots and lots of patience. If he is not given time to adjust, he will hide because he gets frightened, according to Wild. "Once Howie is relaxed, he does love human companionship," Wild said. "He is vocal and really seems to understand your words, as he tilts his head while being spoken to. Howie is fine with other cats, but again, needs his time to get to know a new family, whether furry or human. He is sad in his cage, looking out almost not understanding that he did nothing wrong, and we are all rooting for him to find that perfect home where he can lay his head down and finally feel safe and loved." Howie is neutered, has all his shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. If you are interested in meeting Howie, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet him or any of the other kittens and cats.
