YONKERS, NY — New York State Police say a Danbury, Connecticut driver got an early start on the Cinco de Mayo celebrations and ended up in handcuffs. Troopers pulled over the car driven by Shamek Brown early this morning on I-87 in Yonkers. Soon after the 1:35 a.m. traffic stop, police say they discovered that the 49-year-old was not only intoxicated, but was also driving with a suspended license. Brown compounded his problems by resisting arrest, police said. When he was eventually taken into custody, he reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test. Brown has two previous DWI convictions within the last 10 years and, as a result, he was charged with felony DWI, according to authorities. He also faces a felony charge related to driving with a suspended license and a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge. Brown was turned over to a sober acquaintance and released. He is scheduled to appear before the City of Yonkers Court on May 28.
