WAUKESHA, WI— The Waukesha Board of Education held a special meeting on Tuesday regarding the topic of quarantines. The quarantine protocol change was approved by a 5-4 vote immediately and for the remainder of the school year.
There was no discussion on face coverings during Tuesday's meeting.
Effective immediately, the School District of Waukesha will not quarantine students or staffdetermined to be a close contact with an person that has tested positive for covid-19, presumed to be positive, or awaiting a test result.
All School District of Waukesha students and staff currently in quarantine could return today.
The district will continue to implement contact tracing and inform students, families, and staff ofclose contacts so people can make the choice that best fits their personal or family circumstances.Staff choosing to self-quarantine will continue to follow the guidelines written in the SDWEmployee Attestation earlier this year.
This includes notifying their supervisor, contacting their medical provider, and the district staff contact tracer. In addition, staff that has been fully vaccinated should continue to monitor for symptoms.
"We will continue to implement contact tracing and inform students, families, and staff of close contacts so you can make the choice that best fits your personal or family circumstances," said Dr. James Sebert, Superintendent of Schools, in a letter to parents.
According to the district's coronavirus dashboard, as of Wednesday, there are 23 students, 1 staff member isolated. There are 114 students and 3 staff members who are active/quarantined.
