WALLINGFORD, CT — The Wallingford Town Council might propose increasing the mayor's salary by around 50 percent during an amendment meeting on the 2021-22 budget this week, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reports Councilor Chris Shortell, who noted that Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr.'s salary is lower than around 350 other municipal employees, suggested during a budget workshop last month increasing the mayor's salary from $96,000 to $140,000 or $150,000. Shortell said increasing the salary for the position can only be done during a municipal election year, such as this year.
Dickinson, who has been mayor since 1984, told the Record-Journal he is opposed to increasing the salary.
