TOWSON, MD — A crossing guard was airlifted in critical condition Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle in Towson, according to police.
Officials said the crash occurred at 3:44 p.m. in the 800 block of Providence Road. Police said the driver of the 2000 Acura, which was a four-door sedan, remained at the scene.
The driver did not show any signs of impairment, according to police.
The crossing guard was taken by medevac to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that are believed to be life-threatening, police reported.
The crossing guard was hit outside Cromwell Valley Elementary School, according to WBFF, which reported children were kept inside until first responders had left.
Members of the Baltimore County Police Critical Incident Team offered emotional support to the school, staff and students, according to police.
