STRATFORD, CT — The public is invited to comment during a virtual hearing next week regarding the Stratford Army Engine Plant stewardship agreement.
A virtual public informational hearing, hosted by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, to review a draft Stewardship Permit Renewal for the Stratford Army Engine Plant Property will be held at 6 p.m. on May 12, Mayor Laura R. Hoydick announced this week.
The Stewardship Permit's purpose is to "require the completion of investigation, remediation, and long-term stewardship requirements including monitoring of environmental conditions, engineered controls, and institutional controls, as applicable," according to a news release. "The permit requires financial assurances and public participation in final remedy decisions. The Stewardship Permit ensures that the statewide environmental remedy remains effective into the future."
"We have been steadily working to this critical point in the effort to redevelop the Stratford Army Engine Plant property, and this is an important and exciting phase that opens the door for the cleanup of contamination to begin," Hoydick said in a statement. "I hope all interested residents will participate in the virtual meeting to get information and to ask questions."
