Description
STAMFORD, CT—Police are investigating a possible accidental shooting which occurred on May 1.
According to Capt. Richard Conklin, an 18-year-old male presented himself to Stamford Hospital with a single, non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg shortly before 10 p.m. last Saturday.
The victim initially gave a different name and date of birth, and officers and investigators responded to the hospital where they later came up with a positive identity. Police have not released the name.
"He originally said he was shot in the area of the basketball courts at Cove Park, and our investigation reveals that that's apparently not true," Conklin said. "It's possible it's accidental. The victim is not commenting further at this point. Our investigators did find a scene that lends itself to the shooting happening on Webb Avenue. We're actively investigating it to see if we can shed more light on this."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Stamford Police Detective Bureau at 203-977-4417.
