KIRKLAND, WA — A 37-year-old woman is undergoing a mental health evaluation after a two-hour standoff with police in Kirkland's Kingsgate neighborhood Tuesday night, officials said Wednesday. The Kirkland Police Department said 911 callers reported the woman was armed with a knife and threatening to kill her neighbor, shortly before 5:30 p.m. Police said the neighbor ran to her vehicle and left the area. When officers arrived on 116th Avenue Northeast, they learned the woman with the knife was barricaded inside her own home. Police said the woman appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis. After two hours, she left her house and was quickly apprehended by officers, then involuntarily committed for mental health assistance, according to a news release. The police department said it was working with a "designated crisis responder" to ensure the woman received treatment. Criminal charges may still be filed after the investigation is complete.
