KIRKLAND, WA — Eastside residents will have a great opportunity to safely dispose of a multitude of tricky items this month, as Kirkland hosts its biggest recycling event of the year on May 15. The drive-thru event will take over the Lake Washington Institute of Technology's south parking lot between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Many items are free to recycle, while larger equipment will require a small fee. The site can only accept cash payments and encourages visitors to bring exact change if possible. 2021 Spring Recycling Event: Date: Saturday, May 15Time: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.Place: Lake Washington Institute of Technology11605 132nd Avenue Northeast, KirklandSouth parking lot Here are a few things to bring: Free to drop-off: Styrofoam (no takeout containers and packing peanuts)Bulky wood (up to 2 loads per household)Electronic gadgetsPrinters, microwaves, phones, keyboards, DVDs and more.No TVs, monitors and computers, which have separate "E-cycle" drop-off options)Scrap metal (cannot have contained paint, oil, as, chemicals or hazardous materials)Lawnmowers (with gas and oil pre-drained) Accepted with fees: Air conditioners/dehumidifiers: $35 Refrigerators/freezers: $30 Tires: ranges from free to $18Mattresses/box springs: $15Porcelain toilets/sinks: $15Propane tanks: $5 for residential, $1 for camping-sized.
