Do you want to be trained for a life-long career but need to pay bills now? Boatworks 101, an innovative apprenticeship program, trains the next generation of craftspeople in the marine industry. This is a highly selective opportunity and only a handful of applicants will be chosen. The apprenticeship is a full-time, paid position for people 18 years old and up interested in working in the maritime service trades. Boatworks 101 creates a path toward success and security. No prior experience in the boating industry is required, only a commitment to complete the entire 15-month apprenticeship training and a desire to make this your life-long career. During the first nine months, apprentices train and work at Spaulding Marine Center. You will learn shop safety and tool skills while also gaining familiarity with marine carpentry, structural work, propulsion, and yacht systems. You will work on actual customers’ boats, undertake a new boat build using a blend of traditional and modern techniques and materials, and experience a wide variety of training activities. Our skilled instructors inspire excellence and want each apprentice to be successful! Following the nine months training at Spaulding Marine Center, apprentices will rotate for six months through our employer partners throughout the Bay Area. You will learn from electricians, diesel mechanics, riggers, carpenters, composites experts, and other specialists throughout the industry. Each of our partner employers has expressed the genuine need for dedicated, skilled and excellence-oriented workers. You can, in a few years, be making $30 hr or more.
