AUSTIN, TX — A man was arrested after barricading himself for several hours at an East Austin apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.
The man, whose identity has yet to be released, was taken into custody around 8:45 p.m. and faces charges of terroristic threat against a peace officer, Austin police told reporters in a news conference Tuesday.
Authorities said police were called to the the 1500 block of Wickersham Lane around 3 p.m. for a disturbance hotshot call. The call indicated a disturbance could be heard inside the complex, along with screaming and yelling.
When officers arrived to the apartment, they tried contacting the man, who could be heard from the inside and threatened to shoot officers if they entered.
Officers said they could hear a firearm being loaded after the man's threat.
Afterwards, the area was contained by officers and was treated as a barricaded subject call as the department's SWAT team arrived to the scene.
There were attempts from negotiators to make contact with the man, but he did not comply with efforts to exit the apartment voluntarily, officials said.
Authorities said an arrest warrant was later obtained after not getting cooperation from the man. After receiving the warrant, police discovered a woman was inside and was being held against her will.
After the discovery, officers attempted to enter the apartment to rescue the woman and prevent any injuries from happening to her.
Once entering, officers confirmed the woman was not injured and took the man into custody. It is unclear what relationship the man and woman had.
Authorities will continue to investigate as to what lead to the cause of the incident.
