Description
INDIO, CA — Two hikers were hurt Wednesday in the Indio hills, requiring firefighters to mount a rescue attempt, though the patients refused care once help arrived.
The hiker down call came in at about 12:30 p.m. on the Indio Hills Badlands Trail, just north of Avenue 42 and Golf Center Expressway and the Indio city limits, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Firefighters staged at the trailhead and trekked to the hikers' location. A California Highway Patrol helicopter was also on standby in preparation for a hoist rescue.
Once the firefighters reached their location, they checked out the patients on scene, but the two hikers declined an offer for further help.
The severity of the hikers' injuries was not disclosed, and their names were not provided.
