HNTB’s Yoga Chandran named general chair for Geo-Congress

Key duties include development and organization of the conference in Southern California Yoga Chandran, PE, GE, HNTB Los Angeles office leader and vice president, was named general chair for the American Society of Civil Engineers Geo-Institute’s 2023 Geo-Congress titled “Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions from the Ground Up.” In this role, he will be responsible for developing the overall structure and working closely with the organization to ensure the quality of content at the upcoming conference. Chandran has a long history of involvement with ASCE and has served on multiple committees, including: Soil Properties and Modeling committee; Earthquake Engineering committee; and Unsaturated Soils committee. He was founding member and chair of the Geo-legislative committee. For several years, he served on the Technical Coordination Council which provided oversight to the Technical committee. Chandran also co-chaired the first-ever joint Geo-Structures Conference held in Phoenix in 2016. “Yoga has been an integral member of ASCE’s Geo-Institute for decades,” said Wayne Feuerborn, HNTB West Division president. “We are looking forward to a successful conference with relevant and valuable content for attendees.” Chandran is a licensed professional engineer and a registered geotechnical engineer in California. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering from the University of California, Davis. The Geo-Institute was created by the ASCE as a specialty institute in 1996 and the annual conference brings academia and practitioners together to share advancement in geotechnical engineering.
