IRVINE, CA —A husband ordered to stay away from his estranged wife has admitted to ending her life, Irvine Police say. Yunlong Bai, a 42-year-old Irvine resident, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing his wife. Bai called his probation officer at about 1 p.m. Tuesday to report that he killed his 33-year-old wife, Chao Chen, according to Sgt. Karie Davies of the Irvine Police Department. The probation officer immediately called the police, who arrived at the home. Bai waited for police at his residence on Red Apple Court in Irvine, Davies said. Another person was with him at the time of that call, though the identity of that person was not released. Chen's body lay on the kitchen floor as Orange County Fire Authority firefighters arrived, according to police reports. They found her deceased at the scene, and showing "signs of trauma," Davies said, declining to be more specific. An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for next week, she said. In November, Bai pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor violation of a protective or stay-away order involving Chen. He was sentenced Dec. 11 to three years of probation and 120 days in jail, according to court records. He was convicted at trial on November 18 of misdemeanor battery involving Chen and was sentenced Dec. 11 in that case to three years of probation, eight hours of community service, 1,220 days in jail. He was also ordered to participate in a batterer's treatment program. Bai was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on a probation violation. He was being held on $1.1 million bail.
