Description

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Hospital has started administering a court-ordered treatment for a COVID-19 patient, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday. It had become the subject of a legal battle. Last week, the hospital was accused of refusing to provide an anti-parasitic drug known as ivermechtin, despite a court order. Desi Fype, the daughter of patient and Elmhurst resident Nurije Fype, told Fox 32 last week that she feared her mother would die within hours if she was not given the drug as ordered by the court. The patient has been in the hospital for nearly a month. On its website, the FDA gives reasons why people should not use ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19. Patch reached out to Keith Hartenberger, the hospital's spokesman, about the situation earlier this week. He said he couldn't comment because of privacy regulations. For more on the situation, check the Chicago Tribune story.
