Man Accused Of Forging Credential, Harming Patient During CT Scan

DEERFIELD, IL — A 41-year-old Deerfield man is accused of forging his technologist credentials and injecting a woman with the wrong formula during a CT scan in Hoffman Estates. Omayr Niazi is charged with aggravated battery, forgery and wire fraud, according to Hoffman Estates police. On November 23, 2020, police said a patient had a negative, burning reaction after Niazi injected her with contrast solution, a type of dye. Niazi then went on to perform a CT scan without training or certification at Hoffman Imaging and Medical Center on West Higgins Road. A month later, the patient reported Niazi, prompting an investigation that revealed the man had forged credentials and submitted unauthorized claims to insurance companies, police said. Niazi was ordered to be held on a $100,000 bond Tuesday. While Niazi does have a pharmacy technician license, the man may not work in the medical industry as a condition of his bond. Representatives from Hoffman Imaging and Medical Center did not immediately respond to request for comment.
