DUBLIN, CA — Plans to build an IKEA in Dublin have stalled, but the retailer of budget home furniture and decor still plans on forging ahead with the project.
IKEA is reevaluating some details of its plan "to address the changing market," said city spokesperson Shari Jackson in an email. Jackson was unable to elaborate on what changes IKEA may be considering.
When that process is finished, IKEA will work with the city to hammer out the details and obtain a site development review permit.
City of Dublin IKEA first submitted its application to the city five years ago and the city council approved the IKEA project in 2018, according to the city.
The retailer has proposed building a 317,000-square-foot store on a 28-acre parcel in eastern Dublin at 5144 and 5344 Martinelli Way. IKEA's proposal also includes a 93,000-square-foot commercial center for retailers and restaurants.
