Phoenix Reopening 11 Community Centers On June 7

PHOENIX, AZ — The Phoenix City Council voted to reopen 11 of the city's community centers in early June on Wednesday. The tiered reopening plan for the centers, along with resuming the process for special park permits, special activity request permits and the resumption of pool rentals by high school swim and dive teams were all approved by the council. All of the city-owned facilities mentioned have been closed since March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The following community centers will reopen on June 7: Deer Valley Community CenterDesert West Community CenterEastlake Community CenterGoelet A.C. Beuf Community CenterLongview Neighborhood Recreation CenterMaryvale Community CenterParadise Valley Community CenterPecos Community CenterSouth Mountain Community CenterSunnyslope Community CenterWashington Activity Center All of the aforementioned centers will have COVID-19 protections in place, including limiting capacity to 50 percent; requiring masks and COVID-19 screening with temperature checks upon entry; using contactless customer service; position furniture and equipment to allow proper social distancing; in addition to other measures, the city said. In-person summer camps at the 11 centers will be held for those ages 6 to 12 on June 7, with all camps being operated at 50 percent capacity with mask requirements for all participants, the city said. The city's remaining 16 community centers will reopen once Phoenix reaches moderate COVID-19 spread.
