Description
My philosophy is "Everything I ever needed to know about business I learned on the sports field." From Behind The Scoreboard, I feature the sports stories that tell us much more than simply who won or lost. These personal and inspiring experiences of grade school, high school, college, other amateur and even pro athletes allow all of us to reflect a little more on what is important in life. ~ James C. Striking Out Stars Nothing To Sneeze At
Four guys on a softball team, and they won most of the time. Many from my generation will recall Eddie Feigner and the King and His Court. They played throughout Long Island, throughout the New York City area and across the country, around the world and even on aircraft carriers.
Eddie’s most impressive feat on the field may have been when he struck out six straight major league hitters—Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Brooks Robinson, Willie McCovey, Maury Wills and Harmon Killebrew—during a 1967 exhibition game at Dodger Stadium. When Sports Illustrated named him the most underrated athlete of his time during 1972, he replied, “I’m a pipsqueak because I’m caught in a nothing game. It’s like being a world-champion nose-blower.”
But, the one-time U.S. Marine did something that makes him a world champion person in my book. A considerable amount of ticket profits from his games were donated to charity.
Read about Eddie in my blog.
