Description
Well hello! We’re losing a great veterinary assistant who is moving out of state soon and now we're looking for an experienced assistant or CVT. Let’s be honest here; if you’re looking for a position in veterinary medicine in the Portland area right now, you should have your choice of practices to choose from. We all know the supply of veterinary personnel compared to the demand of said personnel is a little unbalanced at the moment. So where does that leave us? Well, now my job (I’m the practice manager) is to persuade you that this is a good (dare I say, the best) place to work. I can say all the same things all the other ads say (good benefits, great culture, yadda, yadda, yadda), but instead of that I just now walked around the hospital here and asked my team why they like to work here (OK, apparently there are the occasional pop quiz questions from me if you work here). Here is what they had to say; Eve (lead groomer here for 20 years) – the benefits are amazing, our team is kind and understanding, we all really care about the pets, and we have a truly extraordinary boss. Sarah – (bather here for 4 + years) – I love how everyone really does care about the pets, and the comradery we all have makes the day pleasant. Michelle (technician assistant here for 1.5 years) – we have a great team and I enjoy seeing the animals every day. Melissa (assistant here for 4+ years) – our work and life balance matter to management, I have co-workers I actually enjoy working with, the team is cohesive, and we have the best clients I’ve ever worked with. Dr. Nomi (DVM here for 8 months) – the doctors are all very collaborative, the clients are committed to caring for their pets and they are happy to bring them to us for care. The clients are also genuinely fond of us. Tess (CVT here 1 year) – my co-workers are the best. We have great teamwork and everyone gets along. We also have great clients who love their pets. Dr. Ward (DVM here for 9 years) – our team is supportive and the entire atmosphere here is supportive. We are constantly teaching and learning and sharing. We are encouraged to grow and we have the flexibility to make a difference. Amy (CCC here for 4 years) – I’ve been in veterinary medicine for 21 years and this is the first time I have been comfortable with any of the doctors caring for all of my pets. This is a fun atmosphere and it feels more like family and I feel at home. Malissa (assistant here 6+ years) I love the camaraderie, there is no judgment or drama and I feel like I want to come to work. Our feelings are always listened to without judgment and our suggestions are taken seriously. We are asked about changes to the business instead of just being along for the ride. Everyone who comes to work here from other practices always says it is the best practice they have ever worked at. Stephanie (CVT here for 11 years) – I have a fabulous relationship with Jessie (practice manager). I am proud of our standards of care. I’m able to perform to my fullest capacity as a CVT with trust and autonomy. We have fun, there is a lot of humor on the floor. Meghann (CCC with us for 1+ year) – I really like the patient care and professionalism and it feels good to believe in what we do. I get paid more here than I did at my previous practice. The team works hard but it is smooth and we all work well together. Becca (assistant for less than a year and now moving out of state) where do I start?! I honestly can't say enough good things about this clinic and staff. I have never worked somewhere that is consistently so well stocked, staffed, and appropriately booked. We always have the proper supplies and equipment for our daily duties. The staff is AMAZINGLY helpful, willing to teach, and uplifting! Well, there you have it, exactly what today’s team likes about working here. As for me (practice manager here for 18 years), I love working here for a few reasons; I am proud and honored to work with this team of compassionate, funny, and uber-gifted people. We can have authentic (sometimes challenging) conversations and walk away feeling heard and respected. I am proud that we do not compromise our medical standards for any reason (including financial gain), and I am grateful to have an employer who is likable, generous, extremely talented, and an exceptional human being. Some of the boring details I feel compelled to share here include; 5 doctors practice (no divas). Competitive compensation and benefits (medical paid 100% for full-time employees, dental, PTO, uniforms, holidays, pet health care discount, IRA, an anniversary bonus, and more). Bells and whistles like ultrasound, digital radiology, laser, cloud practice management software, etc. Management (that’s me) has an open-door policy. If you need me, I’m there. I’ll always tell you the truth and when you don’t want to hear it, I’ll tell it to you as kindly as possible. I will protect you from any client abuse (almost never happens), and I’ll always respect your opinion, even if it is different from my own. I will gently push you outside your comfort zone if I think I need to, and I’ll celebrate with you when you succeed. If this practice and these amazing people sound like something that interests you, just complete this brief survey ( ) and I will be in touch. Alternatively, you’re welcome to deliver your resume in person and I’ll make every effort to say hello while you're here. Just don’t send an e-mail attachment because I won’t open it, too many pesky viruses sneak in that way. If you're determined to e-mail your resume, put it in the body of the e-mail. See you soon!
