THE SHORT VERSION: if you have opinions about Emmylou Harris or Jay Farrar and are interested in starting a low-to-moderate-intensity country-inflected band, let's talk.
THE LONG VERSION: I'd like to get a neo-country band together. Something that sits somewhere on the spectrum between Hank Williams and, I don't know, the Flaming Lips covering Hank Williams. Maybe something like one of the phases of Uncle Tupelo. The exact landing point would depend on the people involved, I guess.
I play guitar and can sing some, and can write songs; depending on who's interested in getting involved with this, I'd be OK with doing a lot of the singing or nothing but backups, depending on what's needed. Instrumentally, I think there'd be room for more guitar, bass, drums, fiddle, and who knows what other types of country-ish instruments. I'm a big believer in bands that get along well and are run pretty democratically; I'd also love to get a band together that wasn't all guys, if possible.
On the intensity question, I think the dream would be to get together a couple of times a month and play a couple of shows a year, at least as a baseline. I don't see this as a kind of THIS IS IT WE'RE GOING TO RIDE THIS TO FAME AND FORTUNE thing, but I'd like to take it at least a little seriously, balanced with keeping it fun.
I have a bunch of solo recorded stuff at http://www.theawesomeboys.com/ (or just search Spotify for The Awesome Boys). This isn't really the sound I'd like to land on with whatever grows out of this, but maybe it gives you a sense of where I'm coming from.
