Description

Prattville: The enduring legacy of Chelsea’s Pratt family - Historical walking tour Prattville’s rich and colorful history begins with the Native American Pawtucket and Sagamore tribes. Then, in 1695, Thomas Pratt inherited a 390 acre farm that had belonged to the Ireland-Way family. For the next 300 years generations of the Pratt family farmed the land and made their homes here. They fought as Patriots in the American Revolution, hosted George Washington and led the City of Chelsea. The Pratt family made an edible mark on the Prattville neighborhood, the city of Chelsea and the nation. This is a 60-minute guided walking tour. Masks are required and attendance is limited. Tickets are free. All are welcome to access the self-guided tour on the Chelsea Prospers website. Meet by the flagpoles at Voke Park on Washington Avenue. This tour was researched by Lee Farrington for Chelsea Prospers, the City of Chelsea's initiative for neighborhood vitality. Lee Farrington has lived in Prattville for 17 years and shortly after moving here became absorbed in learning about Chelsea’s history. She is a former trustee of the Governor Bellingham Cary House. Chelsea Prospers facilitates events, public art and human-centered infrastructure projects in the City of Chelsea, with the goal of weaving community connections and healthier, happier and more prosperous City.
