Description
READING, MA — The Department of Public Works will conduct water main flushing this summer, starting in the center of town and heading north and west of Route 28. The town will use a new flushing process, known as "undirectional" flushing, which is done to improve water quality and fire flows and allow for the inspection and testing of many hydrants, water mains and water line gates.
Flushing will run from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, starting May 10. Residents may notice discoloration in the water and a reduction in pressure, according to a town announcement.
The water is safe to drink, but residents may want to check the water prior to washing any clothing.
