Description
PEABODY, MA — North Shore drivers heading from Route 95 to Route 1 northbound are in for a little detour in the Peabody and Lynnfield stretch Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
The state Department of Transporation said Exit 44 and Exit 44B — formerly exits 63 and 63B — will close temporarily from Route 95 northbound and southbound.
The work will begin at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and clear by 5 a.m. Thursday.
MassDOT said the closures are necessary to allow crews to make pavement and roadway repairs.
Southbound drivers on Route 95 will be detoured to the Route 1 southbound ramp to the Salem Street overpass and then to reverse direction at Salem Street to Route 1 northbound.
Northbound drivers also will be detoured to Route 1 southbound to the Salem Street overpass and then to reverse direction at Salem Street to Route 1 northbound.
Signage, law enforcement details and advance message boards will be in place to guide drivers. Drivers should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.
The work is part of an $11 million pavement improvement project along Route 1 scheduled to finish in May 2023.
