Historic Talking Rock, GA Talking Rock, located on the Old Federal Road, was one of the first settlements in the region. It is located alongside the Trail of Tears, where the Cherokee people were forcibly removed from the area. One of the earliest cotton mills in Georgia was built in Talking Rock, and then later destroyed by Sherman during the Civil War. (1860s) The town was incorporated in 1883. The three current day antique stores are all located in buildings built that same year. Hollyhocks of Talking Rock, which was originally a hotel, later became a homeplace. Over 20 years ago the building was renovated by the current owners, and it became the first antique store in town. Shadow Creek Antiques began as a general store, with a boarding house added in 1902. There was a gas pump in front of the barn that served as a livery. The building became a homeplace and is now an antique store. All owners, past and present, lived in the building. Moose and Annie Mercantile was originally a homeplace, where the owner made and sold hats. In the late 1900’s it was used to store large industrial spools of wire, giving the floor lots of character with varying elevations. It became retail space over 20 years ago and is now an antique store.
