NORTHPORT, NY — The Northport High School field hockey girls are Long Island champions. The team won the Class A championship against Garden City, marking the first time in school history the girls won the field hockey title, a parent of one of the team members told Patch. Sophia Bica scored the lone goal in Northport's 1-0 shutout of Garden City after Olivia McKenna's pass attempt deflected off a stick, causing the ball to pop up in the air before Bica slammed it into the cage, Newsday reported. The game was held April 24.
