LONG BEACH, NY — As beachgoers get ready to flock to the famed boardwalk again, they'll see more than sand and water. A new mural of osprey wings will greet them. The artist, Kara Hoblin, did a similar mural for Port Jefferson earlier this year. Hoblin's art was unveiled Tuesday by County Executive Laura Curran. "Long Island's downtowns are the place to be this summer. The pandemic has been devastating for our main streets, but Nassau County is opening up and bouncing back. Working together, let's do all we can to promote and support our local businesses," Curran said in a statement. The 8-x-10-foot mural stands at the Skudin Surf Club on One Riverside Blvd. "By bringing the popular national trend of street art to Long Island with the Osprey Angel Wings mural we hope to drive foot traffic to downtowns, highlight local art, create a social media campaign that can be widely shared and boost community pride in the place we call home," Kristen Reynolds, president and CEO, Discover Long Island, said in a statement" The osprey wings depict some of the most beloved images of the South Shore, including someone surfing the wave and various marine life. "As a Long Island native, my art showcases the beauty of our Island and it's wonderful to see everyone enjoying and sharing their experiences with my art on social media," Hoblin said. Long Island has one of the densest populations of osprey in New York state.
