Woodbridge Woman Remembered On 1-Year Anniversary Of Crash

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Family and friends gathered in Woodbridge on Monday to remember Deborah L. Talbot on the one-year anniversary of her death. Talbot, 50, was struck and killed by a car that ran off Cardinal Drive onto the sidewalk where she was walking her dog. Talbot's death has done little to slow down traffic on Cardinal Drive. Vehicles still travel at high speeds on the road with minimal enforcement by Prince William County police, according to residents who live in the community. While gathered at the crash site Monday evening, family and friends saw a Charger race at a high speed — "a sad reminder to all of us about what happened and what continues to happen," one of Talbot's good friends said. A banner has been put in place along the road to honor Talbot at the site of the crash and to remind drivers on Cardinal Drive to slow down. Talbot of Woodbridge was killed when Cierra Dickerson, 19 years old at the time of the crash, drove her Lexus sedan off Cardinal Drive near the intersection with Swan Way and struck Talbot. The sidewalks along Cardinal Drive are popular with joggers and walkers. But speeding is especially a problem between the traffic light at Waterway Drive and Benita Fitzgerald Drive. Dickerson, also of Woodbridge, was indicted on July 6, 2020, on charges of involuntary manslaughter, racing involving death, and two counts of reckless driving — one for driving too fast for conditions and the other for failure to maintain control, the Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said in a news release. Talbot was flown to an area hospital where she later died of her injuries from the crash. Her dog escaped injury. Dickerson's sentencing hearing as part of a plea agreement is scheduled for July 1, according to court records.
