Description We are seeking an experienced Gardener, Landscape maintenance/groundskeeper for a large private residential property in Santa Rosa. This is a full time 40 hour a week position. The Gardener-Groundskeeper should have in-depth knowledge of horticulture and landscaping. There is 204 plus acres. Within the 4 acres are 30 Olive Trees, several rows of grapes and a small orchard of fruit trees. There is a yearly greenhouse, an in-ground vegetable garden, raised beds with strawberry, black berries, raspberries and blueberries. There is also a much loved green lawn that is kept watered and weed free. There are 200 plus acres that is mostly undeveloped with horse trails throughout. This acreage was burned in the 2017 fires and there is a ranch manager who you will occasionally work with to clear trees. The person hired should be comfortable using equipment including a tractor and a large chipper and chipper truck. There are two full time laborers employed year round to be guided and supervised. Spanish speaking is a huge plus as they only speak Spanish. They clear the trails year round and do extensive physical chores including tree cutting, chipping, high weed cutting and fertilizing plants. Experience Requirements • Must speak read and write English • Horticulture degree or equivalent experience/knowledge preferred • Must have the ability to lift weight up to 50 lbs. • Professional references required • Must live within 25 miles of property • Ideally be bilingual and speak and understand Spanish well enough to direct full time • Laborers employed on site Educational Requirements Fluency in English Responsibilities • Landscaping for 4 of the 204 acres • Daily management and upkeep and care of lawns, planting beds and gardens • Lawn Care: this is a priority to keep green and weed free. Grass fertilization, adequate watering and regular mowing and edging of the lawn • Planting new flowers, various plants and new trees seasonally and as required • Pruning shrubs, trees and removing dead growth as needed • Daily management of a small orchard of fruit trees, Olive trees and table grapes. Outside vendors are available for consultation yearly • Monitor shrubs and trees for general health and add compost or fertilizer as propriate for species and soil needs. • Test soil as needed • Irrigation/Sprinkler Installation and repairs as needed. There is an outside landscape and irrigation company that has done the installation and should be coordinated with as needed • Regular testing of irrigation emitters, control systems and valve stations. Adjust irrigation system throughout the year as needed • Daily inspection of irrigation pumps and control systems with small repairs done on-site. • Familiarization with the well system and understanding of well and how it feeds the grounds, house and pool • Keep all tools clean and in good condition • Daily property cleaning and maintenance • Apply bug and pest treatments to areas outside of food crop and fruit tree areas • Supervise outside contractors and maintenance workers
