Description

From the South Bend Community School Corporation: May 4, 2021 Beginning this fall, the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) will add three new pre-kindergarten programs to its current K-12 structure. Marshall, Muessel, and Studebaker Schools will offer pre-kindergarten programs for students who turn four years old by August 1, 2021. Each school will offer two sessions per day, and accommodate up to 20 students for each session, for a total of forty pre-K students at each site. Morning sessions will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and afternoon sessions from noon to 3:00 p.m. Bus transportation will be provided. Unlike traditional early childhood programs, the new SBCSC pre-K programs will provide certified teachers in each classroom, along with a teaching assistant, resulting in a 10:1 teacher/student ratio. "Our goal is to provide every pre-K student with a solid foundation for learning that is necessary to succeed in kindergarten and beyond," said Jennie Joyce, Director of Early Childhood Programs for the South Bend School Corporation. "Pre-kindergarten is a growth opportunity for children that not only prepares them for kindergarten, but also promotes physical, social, and emotional development. By providing these pre-K options for children, we can focus on consistent curricula that feed into the next grade level so students can be part of South Bend Schools from pre-kindergarten to high school graduation," added Joyce. Registration for any of the pre-kindergarten programs will be available on the SBCSC website and enrollment forms are available here. Open house events will also be held at each site in early September, just prior to the start of the pre-K semester, which starts three weeks after the K-12 semester begins. For questions about any of the programs, please contact Mrs. Joyce at 574-393-6054 or [email protected]. This press release was produced by the South Bend Community School Corporation.
