Press release from the City of Berkeley: May 04, 2021 Berkeley, California (Tuesday, May 04, 2021) - On May 1st at 3:33 am, officers conducted a traffic stop on vehicle travelling at an unsafe speed in the area of Derby Street and MLK Jr. Way. When officers contacted the vehicle's four occupants, they determined that two of them had outstanding arrest warrants. When officers searched the vehicle and occupants, they found that one of them had an open container of liquor in his pockets and another was armed with a loaded handgun. Inside the vehicle, officers also found a baggie of MDMA/methamphetamine. Officers arrested the driver (a 23-year-old Oakland man) on suspicion of carrying a loaded/concealed firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Officers arrested one of the passengers (a 28-year-old Berkeley man) for his outstanding arrest warrants.
