Description

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Vestavia Hills City Schools will offer a remote learning option for students in the 2021-22 school year. Remote learning is open to all students in grades 6-12. Students who enroll in the remote learning option will remain there for the entire 2021-22 academic year. All remote courses will be provided by Alabama's ACCESS distance learning platform and Edgenuity. A selection of dual enrollment courses will also be available and taught by instructors employed through the college. Courses and instruction will not be provided by VHCS teachers next year. Course selection will be limited to required courses for each student's grade level or graduation requirements, and only a small number of courses will be advanced. No Honors courses will be available, but a small number of elective courses will be provided. Remote students may also elect to take up to two courses on campus (including but not limited to band, chorus, and athletics). Remote students who take these courses will be expected to sign in upon arrival at school and leave campus immediately after class. For those who choose remote instruction, a VHCS staff member will facilitate communication between each student and their base school and monitor academic progress. Students who are not making adequate progress or attending to coursework in a timely manner may be required to return to on-campus classes through the Student Support Team (SST) process. Remote students may also be required to take some exams on campus, including but not limited to, state required assessments. Course fees may be associated with remote learning in ACCESS and Edgenuity, just as in traditional classes. Dual enrollment fees are separate and determined by the college's fee schedule. Students who wish to enroll in the remote learning option for 2021-22 must review the remote learning document on the VHCS website and complete the survey below. Once completed, a school counselor from the student's base school will schedule a time to meet with the student and build a class schedule based on based on available offerings and graduation requirements. Students will also sign a Remote Learning Contract. Click here to review the remote learning information document and course offerings.
