Description
Free speech is important. We need to be able to talk to each other.
This is a meetup for people who want to be able to speak openly without worrying about saying the wrong thing. And maybe enjoy some group socialization which doesn't start with everyone having to declare their pronouns (although you're welcome to do so!).
We're seeing an alarming trend of growing sentiment against the value of freedom of speech. We're seeing increasing hostility, censorship, and violence, and decreasing civility, understanding, and giving the benefit of the doubt. This is especially true in Seattle.
But we're not a monolith, I think there are other liberal people in Seattle who feel like this, who appreciate the importance of free speech, who think we should be able to have a civil discussion on an uncomfortable topic, and who want a reminder of sanity in our city.
What it is:
Meeting up for a drink with other pro-free speech Seattleites
Who it's for:
People who like open conversation
People who believe in diversity of thought
People who want to be able to speak without worrying how many they'll upset
Who it's not for:
People who want to silence differing opinions
How to participate:
Respond to this with your interest and we will coordinate the place and time
This is not intended to be political, or to push for anything except the ability to have discussions again. If we get out of the house I'll consider it a success.
So come have a drink and enjoy the first amendment. Disagreement is healthy. Let's stop avoiding it.
