Description

Walk to visit some of Alexandria's community gardens, butterfly gardens, and learning gardens Which library in Alexandria has a butterfly garden designed to help migrating monarch butterflies? Which demonstration garden has a scented garden focusing on plants with fragrant flowers or aromatic foliage? Where can you find Alexandria's first traffic garden, designed to help children learn about traffic safety in a car-free environment? Come walk with us to visit some of Alexandria's community gardens, learning gardens, and other types of gardens. We'll meet at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park (426 E. Monroe Avenue, Alexandria VA 22301), then walk to various community gardens around Del Ray. The route is about 3 miles: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35666422. All are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. Bring water, a face covering, and hand sanitizer. You'll be asked to sign a waiver before the event. If you can't make the walk but would like to do a garden ride instead, BPAC is hosting a garden ride starting from Ben Brenman Park on Sunday, May 16 at 9:30 a.m. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexandria-garden-ride-registration-153249004899. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- breaking into small groups of no more than 15 people (1 walk leader and 14 participants) -- asking everyone to self-screen and not participate if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people to wear masks during the stops, and also while walking if they can breathe comfortably while doing so -- asking people to give each other at least 6 feet of space while walking -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the walk if needed
