Description
MEDFORD, MA — The Medford Public Schools has revised its holiday schedule to include three new observances, according to the 2021-22 school year calendar.
Students will have days off on Rosh Hashanah, Sept. 7; Yom Kippur, Sept. 16; and Juneteenth, June 20.
Juneteenth, which is short for June 19th, celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, marking the day when the news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached slaves in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after it was signed.
The upcoming school year will be the first that the Medford Public Schools observes all three holidays. The scheduled last day of school is June 21, 2022, with an allotment of up to five make-up days for snow cancellations.
