Description

A FREE Team Empowerment Conference for Wyandotte County families whose children have disabilities. This training will be in-person and all Wyandotte County COVID-19 restrictions (social distancing and masks) will be followed. Here’s what will cover during our time together ... Parent Rights in Special Education - We will take a step-by-step look at the special education process with an emphasis on parental rights. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) - We’ll begin with the basics - what an IEP is, brainstorming and preplanning, understanding the various parts of the IEP, from developing the present levels to determining the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Effective communication skills and measuring success in the IEP will also be shared. Transition to Adulthood - This is a must for parents with a youth ages 14 or older. It will help you discover how transition planning can reflect your son or daughter’s dreams for the future. We will explore the process of transition from school to adult life including independence, employment and education. Building Partnerships Parent Panel - We’ll hear from other parents as they share stories about their journey. Lunch and materials will be provided. A child care voucher will be available for families who attend the full training. Questions? [email protected] or [email protected]
