LONG BEACH, NY — A Long Beach High School senior is an award winner. Uma Arengo was honored at the Charles Duggan Long Island Science and Engineering Fair. Arengo earned a second place Grand Award and took home a special Mu Alpha Theta award for her process in mathematics, Long Beach Public Schools posted to its website. Her project, "Using Box-Counting Dimension to Quantify the Progressive Stages of Diabetic Retinopathy," was also submitted in the "Math, Physics and Astronomy" category. The Long Island Science and Engineering Fair is an annual competition featuring some of the most advanced projects.
