WALLINGFORD, CT — A motorcycle operator was killed in a crash Sunday night in Wallingford, according to police.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Old Colony Road, south of its intersection with Oak Street in the Tracy section of Wallingford, according to Lt. Anthony DeMaio.
The victim has been identified as Robert S. Kelleher, 55, of Wallingford. He died at the scene from his injuries, according to DeMaio.
Kelleher was operating a 1989 Harley Davidson motorcycle heading south on Old Colony Road before the crash. As he rode past the intersection of Oak Street, he "encountered a slight right curve on a relatively flat section of roadway," DeMaio wrote in a news release.
DeMaio said Kelleher's motorcycle "travelled over the double yellow center line and across the opposing travel lane, where his motorcycle then left the paved portion of the roadway and struck a metal beam guard rail, which caused Kelleher to separate from the motorcycle."
Traffic was affected for several hours as police reconstructed the crash, according to DeMaio.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Officer Christian Evans at 203-294-2819 or DeMaio at 203-294-2838.
