HCPS Summer Programs 2021: Registration Opens May 10

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A virtual learning program will be offered this summer through Harford County Public Schools. Called "Stars of Summer," the enrichment program is open to those in kindergarten through 8th grade who are entering 1st through 9th grades in Harford County. Teachers employed by Harford County Public Schools provide instruction. Topics range from mental health and fitness to birding to coding to DJing to singing. Registration for the program will open at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 10, and it will remain open until midnight on Monday, May 24. Space is limited, according to Harford County Public Schools, which reports students can register for up to three workshops. Stars of Summer will run from July 19 to Aug. 12. See the program catalog. Recovery Learning Programs: Summer School Summer school for elementary students will be in-person from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 19 to Aug. 5. It will focus on math and reading according to the Common Core State Standards for students who struggled during the 2020–2021 school year. Breakfast, lunch, movement breaks as well as camp-like and social-emotional support activities will be offered. This program is tuition-free. It will be at Bel Air, Meadowvale, Abingdon, North Harford and Deerfield elementary schools. Middle school will be in session for in-person summer learning from 7:45 to 11 a.m. July 6 to July 29. The focus will be on reading and math instruction, with time for social-emotional wellbeing and movement breaks. Breakfast and a snack will be served. The recovery program is tuition-free and will be offered at Aberdeen, Edgewood, North Harford, Magnolia and Patterson Mill middle schools. High school students can take these courses during the summer: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Biology, Chemistry, English (I to IV), Foundations of PE, Geometry, Government, Integrated Physics and Chemistry, Wellness Walking and World History. Foundations of PE, Geometry and Wellness Walking can be taken for recovery or original credit.
