DANBURY, CT — Firefighters extricated a driver from a van after it struck a utility pole very early Sunday morning Members of the Danbury Fire Department got the call just before 1 a.m. First responders to the crash site, near the school on Shelter Rock Road, found a van had rolled over into the pole. The lone occupant was trapped inside. After crews stabilized the van they used the "jaws of life" to remove a door and gain access to the driver. The driver was conscious, fire officials said, and was able to assist the fire department with the rescue. The driver was treated at the site by EMS, who drove the victim to Danbury Hospital. Utility crews from Eversource and Frontier Communications were later on-site to repair the broken pole and disrupted wires. Shelter Rock Road was closed for most of the night, according to fire officials.
