Press release from the City of Ames: May 1, 2021 The Ames Fire Department responded to a reported mobile home fire at 3:10 p.m. today (Saturday, May 1) at 2616 Browning St., located off South Dayton Avenue. Ames Fire crews arrived on scene to heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire. Crews remained on scene to manage salvage operations. The resident was able to make it out of the home safely but sustained minor injuries. The home is a total loss. The Red Cross is working with the resident to find alternative housing. There were no injuries to any emergency responders. Damage is estimated near $75,000, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Ames Fire Department reminds residents to check their smoke detectors every month. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire.
