I posted this response I have written on other sites, but thought it important to include here after reading all their nonsensical postings. After they read this they will react one of several ways when confronted by this. They will flag it for removal or will flood me with nasty, angry, threatening emails. I will update the responses. What is going on here is a psychological condition, when confronted their ego/psyche will not allow them to admit they were wrong. As a result, they cling to these beliefs even harder the more they are confronted with the reality. They will never change their minds. This natural tendency to cherry pick and twist the facts to fit with their existing beliefs is known as motivated reasoning. For these people, It takes more information to make them believe something they don't want to believe than something they do! This is especially true when they are members of a group of like minded individuals, given the powerful social incentives for group-think. And taking an opposing viewpoint could damage your reputation within that group. What makes this condition worse is that the internet provides an almost infinite number of sources of information from which to choose your preferred reality. It has also helped transform the speed and manner in which this information is spread. Trump feeds on this and is happy to oblige these people: they can credibly attribute anything they dislike or tries to disrupt their belief system, to fake news, the "Deep State, or other imagined threats that challenge their belief system! This type of person feels powerless and alienated, it can be appealing to them to believe these conspiracy theories or that people are plotting against you and your interests. Once these beliefs take root, cognitive biases and mental shortcuts reinforce and strengthen them. This is why we critical thinkers will never reach them. Nor any fact based media agencies, Nobel Laureates, or even loved family members! Ever. It is far to late for that. They cling to Trump and his messaging like a Mesiah! Failing to understand that Trump is an oportunist and only says the things he does in order to use them. He was clever in this ruse (yes, I said clever here) and it got him elected (with the aid of Russian hacking). The only thing that will change their mind is if Trump makes a mistake that clearly shows he lied to and used his supporters. They will turn on him very quickly, but their belief system is already rooted and they will look for another leader to fill the void (this is why we are seeing so many politicians and would be candidates (My Pillow Guy) are emulating Trump. They know he will either make a mistake or be indicted then convicted and they are quick to pick up his mantle and run with it taking that base with them. They, like Trump, will do everything they can to maintain that power). When they are confronted with any type of facts or information that challenges their tightly wound belief system or their sense of reality, most respond in a manner that is childlike, with anger, profanity, threats, and is often vindictive too! They cannot and will not have a rational debate or discussion, and they respond in a irrational way! Just watch this space as a result of this posting! So, don't try to reach these people or debate them. It is far too late for this. This type of psychological behavior needs to be addressed early on in childhood, and takes years to treat. However, as an adult, they are unreachable.
