Description

Press release from the Village of Mokena: It has come to the attention of Village officials that many Mokena residents and/or business owners may be receiving solicitation phone calls asking for a financial donation to what they interpret to be the Mokena Police Department (MPD). Should a solicitor call you, please listen carefully to what they say. The MPD does not solicit monetary donations, and any donations you might choose to make will not benefit the department's operations. Operations of the MPD are funded through taxpayer dollars. The union representing the police officers of the department (i.e., the Metropolitan Alliance of Police—MAP) annually makes solicitation calls, with donations going to the union. No donations made have any impact (either positive or negative) on the services you receive from the MPD. MAP is allowed to solicit for funds; however, the caller must legally represent themselves during the phone call. Both residents and business owners have expressed confusion and concern over these phone solicitations in the past. Should you receive such a solicitation call and are confused, ask the caller what your donation would fund, as well as what organization would be the recipient of it. Should you have questions or concerns regarding this activity, please contact MPD Commander Chris Carlson at (708) 479-3912. This press release was produced by the Village of Mokena.
