NORRISTOWN, PA — The research group Leapfrog has published their latest update to hospital safety grades, and several hospitals around Norristown and the Montgomery County area are included on the list. Abington-Memorial Hospital was among just 56 across Pennsylvania to receive the top "A" grade for safety, the study shows. Specifically, the study ranked hospitals based on their ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. Here's how some local hospitals stacked up: Einstein Medical Center Montgomery: BSuburban Community Hospital: BPhoenixville Hospital: DPottstown Hospital: D More than 2,700 general, acute-care U.S. hospitals were assessed nationwide for Leapfrog's Spring Safety Grades. To determine each grade, Leapfrog used up to 28 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources. When averaged, performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital's overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. Nearby, Abington Health Lansdale Hospital received a "B" grade and Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park got a "C."
