Returning frozen assets is not "giving away free money"

Description

Political novices don't seem to understand that when the US government seizes the assets of a US citizen or foreign country, it doesn't automatically belong to the US Government (unless it's drug dealer forfeiture related). The US has been holding assets of Iran for decades. The United States seized property we knew did not belong to the United States. Doesn't mean there was anything wrong with seizing it. Just means it belonged to the country it was seized from the entire time. So if at any point the seized assets are released, that is NOT giving taxpayer money to a foreign country. It is simply returning property that the US never claimed it owned in the first place. Educate yourself. Stop reading Twitter and Facebook for world news. The correct information is readily available. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_frozen_assets
