Attention: Upcoming Auditions! We will now begin to take submissions for Hop: An Electric Musical. This will be a musical experience like no other with interspersed EDM, 1940s style music and a live dj on stage. As of right now, the plan is to perform live, stream the show, and do a professional video recording to pop onto our Youtube channel. The following is a list of roles we need to fill: George Antheil - (mid 20s to mid 40s, somewhat youthful looking) Hedy's "platonic" partner in crime, he is incredibly smart, witty and a tenor. He is also a bit emo. This role is also a dancing role. Emil Lamarr/Dancer - (mid 20s to mid 40s) Hedy's dad, but in the younger years of her life. He is a banker, extremely smart, and will double as one of the soldier dancers. Non-singing role. Young Hedy - (Ages 10-14) This role is the younger version of Hedy. She is curious, spunky and a strong dancer. Non-singing role. Friedrich/Dancer - (30s-40s) - Hedy's Nazi ex-husband whom she lives with for a short while in the 1st act. This role is also doubled as a dancing soldier in the 2nd act. Non-singing role. Louis B Mayer - (40s-50s) - The owner of MGM studios who "discovers" Hedy. He is brash and pretty misogynistic, but a fairly jolly guy. Non-singing, non-dancing role. Soldier William/Friend of Louis B Mayer (early to late 20s) A young soldier about to head out to war who becomes Hedy's dance partner in the big group dance number. Must be comfortable with an onstage kiss. This role also doubles as Louis B Mayer's douchey best friend. Non-singing role. Veronica Lake (20s-30s) - Hedy's best friend and a beautiful Hollywood Starlet. She is pretty ballsy and calls Hedy out a lot. Super sweet as well though. Her song is the big dance number and is very jazzy. Alto-Mezzo Boski/Katherine Hepburn (20s - 40s) - George Antheil's somewhat understated wife, who has an interest in Gene, Hedy's current husband. Role also doubles as singing Hollywood Starlet Katharine Hepburn, dancer, mezzo. Charlotte/Lana Turner (20s-30s) - Hedy's maid friend who helps her escape. Role also doubles as singing Hollywood Starlet Lana Turner, dancer, mezzo Gertrude/Rita Hayworth (20s-40s) - Hedy's mother who is insistent that she be more feminine. Strict, but kind. Role also doubles as singing Hollywood Starlet Rita Hayworth, dancer, mezzo. Margaret/Ginger Rogers (40s-50s) - Louis B Mayer's wife, she is a realistic but nice lady. This role also doubles as singing Hollywood starlet Ginger Rogers, dancer, mezzo. Gene/Dancing Soldier (30s-40s) - Hedy's current husband, who has kind of a thing for Boski. This role doubles as a dancing soldier for the big dance number with the Hollywood Starlets. Non-singing role, dancer. Steve Rogers/Dancer (early 20s) - Small role of young man who buys a 25k dollar bond and gets to kiss Hedy Lamarr on stage, role also doubles as a dancing soldier. Non-singing, dancer. To audition, please send a headshot/resume in a reply to this post and indicate which role you are interested in, and please send in a 1-2 minute upbeat monologue and/or 32 bars of an upbeat Broadway song that best showcases your voice. We will be taking submissions until May 16th, at which point we will be contacting you about possible in-person callbacks for cold readings. Previous knowledge of swing dancing for most roles is preferred but not required! We are also looking to fill the following tech roles: Choreographer - Familiar with swing dance and EDM/hip hop/dubstep (stipend pay) Stage Manager - (stipend pay) DJ - Familiar with song transition, bpm and stylized recreation, the ability to run lights also super helpful (stipend pay) You would be onstage during performances. Video Production - We would like at least a couple of the shows professionally recorded, must be someone familiar with recording for the stage. (stipend or hourly pay) We also need all hands on deck for other positions. We will need help with set construction, costuming, and other various tech positions.
