ABOUT US Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) is one of the largest and most experienced providers of services to youth in Washington, DC. Our mission is to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, neglected, and/or at-risk youth and their families in the Washington, DC area. We achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training, and positive youth development activities to approximately 1,500 youth and 5,000 family members each year. With more than 40 years of experience meeting the growing needs of DC’s youth and families with innovative programs, SBY is always willing to listen and ready to help. ABOUT THE JOB SBY is looking for a Maintenance Worker with experience in the Facilities industry. The successful candidate MUST possess his/her own tools (to include: screwdrivers, hammer, saw, pliers, including power tools). Under direct supervision of the Property Manager, the Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs on facility equipment, fleet management and property structures, in addition to performing grounds maintenance. This is a temporary contract position with the possibility of becoming a full-time staff position. Specific duties include: • Perform minor building and residential, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and painting as necessary. • Implement preventative maintenance measures. • Complete inspection of residential and offices with Property Manager. • Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocol. • Perform other maintenance duties as requested. ABOUT YOU • Able to work well with minimal supervision. • Ability to work weekends and evenings when required • Five years of related progressively responsible experience related to the job. • Have and maintain a good driving record, possess a valid driver’s license, and use personal auto for work. • Have your own personal tools including small power tools. • Physically capable of lifting 50 pounds unassisted. • Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawn mowers and small hand tools. • Effective communicator—both written and verbally • Able to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures. • Able to pass clearances required by the District of Columbia and other relevant agencies to work with youth • High school diploma/GED required. ADA SPECIFICATIONS (Physical demands that must be met in order to successfully complete the essential functions of the job.) • Requires ability to participate in physical work, lifting and moving • Requires ability to perform repair tasks involving bending and climbing stairs and ladders • Requires ability to work outside in rain, heat and cold as needed • Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively. • Requires ability to use computers, telephones and other office equipment. • May require ability to sit for extended periods of time.
